I was selected through a competitive application process to serve on Congresswoman Shontel Brown's Youth Advisory Council for Ohio's 11th District, joining approximately 20 students from across the district in this cohort. As Lead Presenter, Head Researcher, and Analyst of the K-12 Education Equity group, I led a 5-member team in addressing educational disparities and accessibility issues, a topic I specifically chose as my first preference due to my deep passion for educational equity. Through monthly meetings from October 2024 to May 2025, I gained firsthand exposure to government and public policy while learning from government officials through presentations and professional development opportunities. My group developed a comprehensive capstone project that analyzed root causes of educational inequity and created mock legislation with specific, actionable solutions tailored to the Cleveland community. We presented our findings and policy recommendations to over 50 community members, including congresspeople and local leaders. Rather than letting this work end with the presentation, I've continued the initiative by partnering with local organizations such as DigitalC (working to end Cleveland's digital divide) and collaborating with Cleveland's Chief of Education to implement our proposed solutions.
