I co-founded BHS Artisanal Woodworking with the only other female student in my Design & Engineering class, transforming a class project into a sustainable student-run business. After creating an impressive cutting board as a sophomore year final project, we developed a comprehensive business plan covering finances, marketing, and sales strategy, then navigated significant challenges pitching the idea to our school board through multiple presentations and roadblocks. We established the business to design, build, and sell sustainable wooden products, including cutting boards, charcuterie boards, coasters, rustic signs, and engraved cups/mugs with custom options, using 100% wood scraps that would otherwise be discarded from the school's woodshop, making our products essentially pure profit. The business has grown to involve 15+ students and generated over $3,000 in revenue during its first year from just two school events (Holi festival and Family Kindness Day) plus custom orders. I serve as both Business and Technical Lead, managing the team, finances, marketing, and sales operations, while also coding a full-stack website from scratch using Vue.js, Java, HTML, and CSS to facilitate custom orders online. Currently, all proceeds are reinvested into the Design & Engineering program's curriculum and equipment, but we're expanding to sell at Cleveland-area flea markets and plan to donate half of our future proceeds to STEM for Her, an organization promoting STEM careers for girls and young women, with a goal of raising $10,000. I'm also focused on training underclassmen to continue the business after graduation.
